# Change or reset your password

You change or reset your password in your browser, using a link Soda emails you.

  Signed in with Google or Microsoft? You don't have a Soda password. Change your password with Google or Microsoft instead.

## Change your password

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Preferences">
    Go to **Settings** > **Preferences**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Change password">
    It's under **Account**. Your browser opens.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter your email address">
    Soda emails you a link.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set a new password">
    Open the link in the email and choose a new password.
  </Step>

## Forgotten your password

In the Soda sign-in window, click **Trouble signing in?**, then click **Forgotten password**. Your browser opens. Then follow steps 3 and 4 above.

## After you set a new password

You're signed out everywhere, including Soda on your Mac. That way, anyone using your old password loses access too. Your browser shows **Password updated**. Sign in to Soda with your new password.

## Password rules

Your password needs at least 8 characters, with an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, and a number.
