# What Soda captures, and what it never does

Soda learns from your existing conversations to build a memory of you customer relationships. That's a lot to trust an app with, and we'd rather you knew exactly what happens than took it on faith. This page sets out what Soda sees, what it keeps, and what it never does. The full legal detail is in our [privacy policy](https://getsoda.app/privacy).

## At a glance

| Source | What Soda reads | What it keeps |
| - | - | - |
| Calls | The sound of the call, on your Mac | The transcript and the write-up. The audio is discarded straight after transcription and never leaves your Mac. |
| Calendar | Your events | Who you met and when, linked to your calls. Soda never changes your calendar. |
| Email | Your conversations with people | What it learns from them, and follow-up drafts for you to review. Soda never sends an email for you automatically. |
| Your Mac | The names in your meeting window, and the address of a meeting tab in your browser | Nothing extra. It's only used to notice a call has started and who's on it. |

## Your calls

Soda transcribes calls locally on your Mac, then discards the audio straight away. No audio ever leaves your Mac. We built it this way so your voice, and your customer's, never has to go anywhere, and there's no recording to delete later. Soda keeps the transcript and the write-up, with the action items and what it learned about each person.

No bot joins your meeting, and nothing appears to the other people on the call. So nobody knows Soda is there unless you tell them, and depending on where you are, you may have to. See [letting people know you're using Soda](/docs/calls/telling-people).

You decide what Soda hears. [Choose which meeting apps it listens to](/docs/calls/choose-platforms), and [pause it](/docs/calls/pause-soda) when a conversation turns to something you'd rather keep out of your memory. Nothing from a paused stretch is kept. Soda doesn't even hear it.

## Your screen and your browser

Two of the Mac permissions Soda asks for have names that sound bigger than what Soda uses them for.

**Screen & System Audio Recording** is how your Mac lets an app hear the other people on a call. Soda uses it for sound only. It records no video, and no screenshots are saved.

**Accessibility** lets Soda read the names of the people in your meeting window, and the window's title. That's how it knows who's on the call, and who's speaking. It doesn't read your messages, your documents, or anything else on your screen.

In your browser, Soda reads only the address of the tab, to spot a meeting link. It doesn't read the pages you visit, and it doesn't store your browsing.

## Your email

When you connect Gmail or Outlook, Soda reads your conversations with people. It skips newsletters, marketing, automated notifications, no-reply senders, and calendar invites. It doesn't read attachments.

Soda writes follow-up drafts for you, but never sends an email on your behalf.

Turn off **Gmail** or **Outlook** in **Settings** > **Privacy** at any time, and Soda stops reading new email in that mailbox. What it has already learned stays, and follow-ups still work.

If you disconnect a mailbox, Soda deletes the email text it stored from it, usually within a day. Your memories and the details Soda learned stay. See [Gmail and Outlook](/docs/integrations/gmail-and-outlook#disconnect-and-what-happens-to-your-data).

## Who can see it

You, and anyone you choose to share with.

Being in a workspace shares nothing by itself. Your calls, emails, notes, and profiles are yours. Admins manage the workspace, but they can't see your memories either.

When you share a contact, company, or call, your teammate sees what you shared and nothing else, and you can take it back at any time. See [what your team can see](/docs/account/what-your-team-can-see) and [how to stop sharing](/docs/using-soda/share#stop-sharing).

## How we look after it

Your data is stored in the United States, and it's encrypted in transit and at rest. Transcripts and everything Soda learns are kept while your account is active, or until you delete them.

To write up a call or answer a question, Soda sends our AI providers only the context that task needs. We use them on terms that don't allow them to train their models on your data. They're based in the US, so that context is processed there.

We don't train our own models on your data either. We don't sell it, and we don't serve ads.

## What you control

* [Pause Soda](/docs/calls/pause-soda) during a call.
* [Choose which apps Soda listens to](/docs/calls/choose-platforms).
* [Exclude people and domains](/docs/memory/exclude-people-and-domains). A conversation with only excluded people in it is never saved.
* [Delete a memory](/docs/memory/your-memories#delete-a-memory) you'd rather not keep. The details it added to profiles stay.
* [Disconnect a mailbox](/docs/integrations/gmail-and-outlook#disconnect-and-what-happens-to-your-data).
* [Delete everything](/docs/memory/delete-your-data). Email [support@getsoda.app](mailto:support@getsoda.app), and we'll delete your data and close your account within 30 days.
