# Soda only heard me, not the other person

If the write-up only reflects what you said, and nothing new lands on the other person's profile, the cause is almost always the **Screen & System Audio Recording** permission. It's how your Mac lets Soda hear the other people on a call.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Turn it on">
    Go to **System Settings** > **Privacy & Security** > **Screen & System Audio Recording**, and turn on Soda. On some Mac versions it's called **Screen Recording**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Quit and reopen Soda">
    Soda hears everyone from your next call.
  </Step>
</Steps>

For the full steps, see [Screen and System Audio Recording](/docs/getting-started/permissions#screen-and-system-audio-recording).

On macOS Sequoia and later, your Mac also asks now and then to confirm Soda can keep accessing your screen and audio. If you didn't allow it, Soda stops hearing the other people. Turn the permission back on as above.

Past calls can't be fixed. The permission only changes calls from now on.

## Headphones make no difference

Soda hears the call the same way whether you listen through your speakers, headphones, or AirPods. There's nothing to change.

## An app that reroutes your sound

This is rare. Audio tools that change where your Mac's sound goes, for example to record or stream it, can hide the call from Soda. If you use one, try your next call with it turned off.
