# Asking good questions

Soda is at its best with questions about your customers: what someone said, what you agreed, what you promised, and what's changed. Ask the way speak to a colleague that was in every conversation with you.

## Questions to try

### Before a call

* "What did Geoff say last time we spoke?"
* "What's still open with Bruce at Northwind?"
* "What does Mattias at Halden care about?"

### After a call

* "What did I commit to on my last call with Jessica?"
* "What are the action items from today's call with Bruce?"
* "Did anyone raise pricing on the Halden call this week?"

### Catching up on an account

* "How many times have we spoken to Northwind this quarter?"
* "What's changed with Anna's team since August?"
* "Who else at Halden have we spoken to?"
* "When did we last hear from Geoff?"

### Finding a promise

* "What did Jessica promise to send me?"
* "What am I on the hook for with Bruce?"
* "Who mentioned wanting a demo of reporting?"

## Improving the quality of your search

### Name who

Instead of "pricing?", ask "What did Geoff say about pricing?" A name tells Soda whose conversations to look at, so the answer is about the right person.

<Tip>
  Tag someone with @ so Soda knows exactly who you mean, even if you know two people called Geoff.
</Tip>

### Name when

Instead of "What's new with Northwind?", ask "What's new with Northwind since August?" Everyday phrases work, like "yesterday", "last week", "this quarter", or "since August".

### Ask about what was said or agreed

Instead of "Is Northwind happy?", ask "Has anyone at Northwind raised a concern this month?" Soda checks what people actually said before it names anyone.

## What Soda answers from

Soda answers from your calls and emails, and everything it has learned from them about your contacts and companies. It also covers anything your teammates have shared with you.

Every answer tells you where each detail came from.

## What Soda leaves to you

Soda answers from what it has heard and read. It won't predict what happens next, like "Will Northwind renew?", or tell you what to do, like "What should I do next?". It won't guess either. If it doesn't know something, it says so.

Very broad questions across every customer, like "Which accounts are at risk?", come back as a list rather than a judgement. For a sharper answer, ask about something people said, like "Who has raised concerns about renewal?"

If an answer looks wrong, check where it came from. See [When Soda gets it wrong](/docs/memory/when-soda-gets-it-wrong).

## Keep the conversation going

Follow-ups work. Straight after asking about Geoff, ask "And what about Anna?" Soda remembers what you were talking about, so you don't have to start again.
